I am known for impulse purchases. One of them happened to be a food dehydrator. When I got it, it probably sat in the closet for a few months. Lately I have been bringing it out to make APPLE CRISPS! They are so simple, healthy, and less messy than a regular apple (great to bring to work!!).
THINGS YOU NEED
4 Big Apples
2 Cups Water
1- Find something that can hold all the apples and liquids. Juice the lemons, add the 2 cups of water, and add a big squeeze of honey. I ended up using a glass casserole dish.
2- Slice the apples with a mandoline slicer. I removed the core with a bottle cap. I also hear small decorative cookie cutters work as well. If you don’t have one, slice the apples with a really sharp knife. When I sliced the apples by hand, the slices were much thicker and were chewier in the end. When I used the madoline slices were thinner and more crisp at the end.
3- Place the slices in the lemon juice mixture and let them soak for about 3 minutes or so. This will stop them from browning. Don’t worry, they will not be sour from the lemon!
4- Put the apples in single layers in the dehydrator. Sprinkle cinnamon on top and let them dry for about 8 hours.
5- After 8 hours take them out and enjoy! I bag mine in ziplock bags so I can have them all week long!
I can not stop making AND eating these!!
