I am not a newbie when it comes to airbrush foundations and systems but I am a newbie to the Luminess Air. I was very excited to get one to try out this month! The everyday system is sold for around $199 and currently on the website there this pink one (the one I have), an Aqua and White one, and a Black one for this price point. There is a limited Leopard edition one that is selling for $249 (SUPPERRR CUUUTTEEE). Get yours for 20% off using code 603268432, it expires October 31, 2015!!
Each system comes with 2 different shades of foundations depending on the shade you pick. I like this so you can play around with the two to get your perfect match if you are in between shades. The set also comes with a moist primer, blush, and highlighter. Once you purchase the set, you are ready to airbrush!
START: At first look, this looks a little intimidating and time consuming, especially if you have never done your own airbrush makeup before. After you use this a few times, makeup application with the primer, foundation, blush, and highlighter can take you the same time (or less!) than your regular traditional makeup routine. The Luminess Air is very simple to set up and start using. All you do is plug in the device, turn the the Luminess Air on, and add your foundation to the cup thing on top of the nozzle (see pic below). The pink tip is where the makeup comes out of. While this is on, you will hear the machine, don’t worry though, nothing will come out of the nozzle until you press the lever on the nozzle to start (silver thing next to where you add in the foundation).
APPLICATION: IF you scroll down below I have added a video of me using this system from start to finish so you can see how it works. When you are ready for the makeup application, I press down the trigger and start to spray is circles. The tip is a couple inches away from my face. I just move my hand in a constant circle motion until my whole face is covered. You can also decide how much foundation you want on. I usually use 7 drops plus extra for extra red or acne areas. I use a lot than than a person with good skin because I like the extra extra full coverage. There is no need to rinse int between changing between primer to foundation, foundation to blush, or blush to highlighter. I didn’t rinse and the colors still looked fine and applied where they were suppose to.
WEAR: I am a very oily person. Its really heard to make anything stay on my face and to keep my face matte. This stayed on my face for a good 8 hours and did look matte when it dried. I did get shiny throughout the day and blotted throughout. This is totally normal for me though. This didn’t hide my pores 100% but it did an okay job. Pretty satisfied with how it looked and the amount of time it stayed on.
VERDICT: I really like how simple this device is and how the end results looked! The only thing I don’t like is the coverage. I will be using traditional concealer before using this from now on. On days where I have no breakouts though, this alone would be perfect. I also so they have a product called “Eraser” on their site that is suppose to help with pores and breakouts that I may pick up to try!
You can see below me demonstrating how I used the system with the Moist Primer, Shade 2 as my main shade, Shade 5 as a contour shade, Blush, and the Brightening Glow. Next time I will use my own concealer when I have bad break out days, like I did in the video. You will see that the system did not cover my breakouts 100% even when I went back to do another layer. I love the way it looks though everywhere else!
